I’m entirely musically self-taught. I learned all I thought I needed to know from frequently following a piano reduction of Schubert’s Symphony “The Unfinished” when I was fourteen, glued to the wireless.I remain rather unfinished in my compositional technique. I simply follow my nose. More recently I have tried to capture the qualities & textures of improvisations rendered by the COMA ( Contemporary Music for All ) group I attend in Colchester.
Teaching English Literature, I sometimes managed to get diverse groups of musicians together to play my music but most of it remained unperformed till 2006 when I found COMA. Small-scale chamber works & piano music followed from this contact.
Besides composing I paint, write philosophical tomes, poetry & haiku and there are three peculiar novels. All these are collected in my hand-made paperback series.
Since early retirement from teaching in 1992 I’ve trained industrial executives in self-development processes mostly via NLP ( Neuro-linguistic programming ) of which I am a Master Practitioner (how grand!)
